The Agroecology Group of the Institute of Plant Sciences of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, together with the Department of Agricultural, Food and Agro-Environmental Sciences and the Enrico Avanzi Agro-Environmental Research Center of the University of Pisa, is organizing an open day dedicated to agroecological practices.
The initiative, now in its eighth edition, will take place on Friday, May 23, at the Avanzi Center (Via Vecchia di Marina, 6 – San Piero a Grado, Pisa), and is open to anyone interested in visiting the experimental fields and talking with researchers.

The day is an opportunity to learn more about the interactions between agricultural crops and wild and cultivated biodiversity, and to discover agronomic solutions that are easily practicable by farmers and useful for improving agricultural systems and soil fertility.
Participants will be able to follow three specific thematic paths, accompanied by teachers and researchers, and visit experimental trials on agroecological techniques such as intercropping, agroforestry, bio-breeding, and conservation agriculture.
Two moments of the day will be dedicated to the presentation of ALL TUSCANY, the newly formed Tuscan Living Lab that brings together farmers, researchers, consultants, and organizations in the agricultural sector, civil society, and policy makers to co-design, co-test, and co-share new agroecological solutions.

Cooperation between different forms of knowledge (scientific, technical, and experiential) and an inclusive and participatory approach to decision-making in research and training are key principles of agroecology. Researchers will have the opportunity to describe and demonstrate the benefits that agroecology brings to agricultural activities, consumers, and the environment, with the hope of receiving comments and suggestions from farmers, agronomists, technicians, and citizens, which are essential for improving and deepening research in line with the principles of agroecology.
